It’s an exciting time to be alive!
All across the world, technology is changing the ways we interact with each other and our surroundings. From the mundane to the profound, technological innovation has shaped an entire era of human development, and there’s no sign of it slowing down.
For instance, back in 2012, we had the distinct pleasure of working with the makers of Boosted Boards — the world’s lightest electric vehicle — on a promotional video for their crowd-sourcing campaign. As huge fans of the product, we were proud to champion these local heroes and innovators in electric vehicle technology. Needless to say, the project was fully funded, and Boosted continues to be a leader in the world of lightweight, portable, transportation.
Today, we are proud to be involved with another innovative Bay Area company that is revolutionizing the electric vehicle. Renovo Motors, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, is an Automotive engineering company that up until late last year has been shrouded in secrecy.
Comprised of members in the Silicon Valley tech industry who have drawn from their previous experiences building businesses, technology, and products here in California, the team behind Renovo has combined their unique skill-set with their passion for the automobile industry to virtually change the world of Automotive as we know it. Now, after the revilement of the most technologically advanced electric-vehicle power-train to date, it seems that they have done just that.
The Renovo Coupe, Renovo Motors’ flagship all-electric high-performance product that was unveiled last August at an exclusive Pebble Beach car show, is a gorgeous reimagining of a classic American icon. If upon first glance, you noticed that this car looks a lot like a 1964 Shelby Daytona, you were not mistaken. However, this is not a kit car. The body of the Renovo Coupe is a serialized, custom built, Shelby made, exterior with a custom chassis that was designed exclusively for this drive-train.
While familiar in appearance, the exterior of the car is the only feature that will remind you of the past. Everything underneath the hood of this beautiful beast reflects a whole new level of cutting edge technical innovation, and futuristic precision-based engineering the likes of which has literally never been seen before.
We knew we’d have a fun time working on this project with the gang at Renovo. As tech and auto buffs ourselves, we made fast friends with everyone on the crew. Right away, there was an unmistakably heightened sense of excitement in the ALCHEMY office, as well as a new set of challenges to overcome. For starters, to meet our production deadline, we would have to work with a very tight timeframe, putting a number of very long work days, and sleepless nights into the process, but because we recognized the amazing opportunity before us, it became of utmost importance to make sure that a product this special would be revealed to the world in the most awesome way possible.
Our first day of shooting also happened to be the first time the Renovo Coupe had seen sunlight. Up until that point, because of the need to remain incognito, all of the test driving was done in the middle of the night, on deserted backroads. We were determined to play it safe, while being extremely careful not to draw too much attention to ourselves, although it was pretty much impossible to keep heads from turning our way when this beauty flew by.
There was no doubt that a video about the “first all-electric American super car” had to have a unique look and feel. Our goal was to bring the energy levels way up, while still building suspense in the video. We knew we wanted to keep the inherent mystery of the project intact, while at the same time get our audience’s adrenaline pumping.
As one can imagine, it isn’t easy to shoot a top-secret video about a top-secret super car on an open road in broad daylight, but by the end of the shoot, we had collected some truly amazing, truly original content that brought a genuine smile to the faces of everyone involved. We’d never seen anyone take an electric vehicle and turn it into a badass muscle car before, and hearing the subtly powerful growl of the Renovo Coupe as it flashed past us on the road in a sparkling blue blur made us feel almost like we had discovered some kind of enigmatic new spacecraft.
The Renovo Coupe is a beautiful amalgamation of passion, skill and incredible work ethic built by actual car enthusiasts who have taken a successful model of Silicon Valley product development and applied it to an industry that is poised for massive growth. Prepare yourself for a glimpse at the next phase in American engineering.
